Is the profit margin calculator free?
Yes. The profit margin calculator is 100% free with no limits, no watermark and no paid tier.
Do I need an account or sign-up?
No. There is no account, sign-up or email required. Open the page and start using it.
Can I export or download my results?
Yes. Use Save results in the Free forever box to download your inputs and results as PDF, Excel (.xlsx) or CSV, or tap Send to phone to share them as a plain-text note (share sheet, copy, .txt file or QR code). Files are created in your browser and include the date generated.
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Margin is profit divided by the selling price. Markup is profit divided by cost. A product that costs $40 and sells for $65 has a 38.46% margin and a 62.5% markup.
How do I price for a target margin?
Divide the cost by (1 minus the margin). For a 40% margin on a $40 cost: $40 ÷ 0.60 = $66.67.
How is break-even calculated?
Break-even units = fixed costs ÷ (price per unit − variable cost per unit), rounded up to a whole unit. Add a profit goal to fixed costs to find the units needed to reach it.
