Frequently asked questions
Is the budget calculator free?
Yes. The budget calculator is 100% free with no limits, no watermark and no paid tier.
Do I need an account or sign-up?
No. There is no account, sign-up or email required. Open the page and start using it.
Can I export or download my results?
Yes. Use Save results in the Free forever box to download your inputs and results as PDF, Excel (.xlsx) or CSV, or tap Send to phone to share them as a plain-text note (share sheet, copy, .txt file or QR code). Files are created in your browser and include the date generated.
What is the 50/30/20 rule?
A simple guideline that splits take-home pay into about 50% for needs (housing, utilities, groceries, transport, insurance, minimum debt payments), 30% for wants and 20% for savings and extra debt payments.
Should I enter take-home or gross pay?
Use take-home pay (after tax), since that is the money you actually budget. The US Income Tax Calculator 2026 on this site can estimate it.
Is my budget saved?
Only if you tick Remember my budget on this device. It is then kept in your browser's local storage on this device and never uploaded. Untick it to delete it.
Are my files or text uploaded anywhere?
No. This tool runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you enter or open is sent to our servers or stored by us.
